HOUSING AFFORDABILITY

More than just the American Dream, owning a home is one of the most viable ways for Americans to build wealth. Yet, in Washington, we have the fewest housing units per household of any state, and it's only getting worse. To reverse this trend and make housing more affordable, we must prioritize pro-housing policies that increase available housing units and help more families and individuals transition from renting to owning a home.

Housing Affordability
THE HOUSING CRISIS IS COMPLEX.

THE SOLUTIONS DON'T HAVE TO BE.

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

Years of funding cuts to career and technical education in schools have narrowed a generation of skilled workers. We need solutions to the labor shortage and more initiatives that focus on workforce development efforts such as Frame Your Future.

SUSTAINABILITY & ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Oftentimes policies that eliminate energy choice in the name of energy efficiency have the opposite effect, increasing the amount of energy being used in homes AND the cost of energy to homeowners. As a community, we must work towards smart energy efficiency practices and policies that reduce carbon emissions and don’t drive up the cost of housing. After all—energy usage leads to sustainable carbon reduction.

SMART GROWTH

As Spokane grows and builds for the future it will be necessary to create smart policy reforms that will encourage, not deter, the building of more homes. After all, we can’t make housing more affordable if it isn’t affordable to build.
