What is Building for the Future?

Building for the Future is a forum for diverse community partners such as affordable housing advocates, economic development leaders and housing builders to learn about and share information on solutions to the housing crisis in Spokane County. Partner groups work together to educate and engage community leaders and residents on solutions such as housing affordability, smart growth, sustainability and construction workforce development. 

 

What does Building for the Future do?

Building for the Future hosts a website with a library of articles and information on housing challenges and solutions. At least once a year, Building for the Future partners come together to host a housing solutions event that is open to the public. 

 

How did Building for the Future get started?

The idea for Building for the Future grew out of a number of community conversations about housing issues in Spokane between diverse partners, such as affordable housing nonprofits, economic development advocates and housing builders. The Spokane Home Builders Association volunteered to get the project rolling. It is now a community partnership seeking diverse stakeholder engagement. 

 

Is this a political action group?

No. The Building for the Future project does not raise money for politics or advocate for partisan candidates.  

 

Are there fees involved with being a partner?

No. There are no fees required to participate at this time, but partners may be invited to financially support group efforts in the future. 

 

What does it mean to be a Building for the Future partner?

Being a partner means:

  • You believe in housing-focused solutions. Your organization believes in solutions that help solve the housing crisis in Spokane County

  • You will lend your voice. Your organization’s name and logo will be added to the partner page of the Building for the Future website to strengthen the reach and visibility of the project

  • You are willing to educate others. You choose to educate yourself and others on potential solutions and policy strategies by providing and/or sharing digital content

  • You will co-sponsor an annual event. Your organization will participate in one Building for the Future housing solutions event per year. This event will be focused on education and open to the public, such as a town hall forum or candidate panel discussion on housing issues. Your involvement could include:

    • Lending your name and logo

    • Financial underwriting

    • Providing input on the program

    • Being actively involved in event logistics

 

How is content curated on the website?

All partners are welcome to submit content for the website about solutions that will help solve the housing crisis in Spokane. Content that contradicts reducing housing costs will not be seen as a solution. 

 

How do I sign up to be a partner?

Fill out the Building for the Future partner sign-up form online.
